IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CREWS BOATING FROM TSS
Please be aware that Tideway Scullers are under a lot of pressure from Hounslow Council regarding parking on Dukes Meadows and, depending on the results of the November/December council meeting, the club may not be able to host visiting crews in the future. Your compliance with the requirements listed below will considerably help rowing's stance in the debate.
As a result : any club not following these instructions is likely to have boating permission from TSS refused for future Tideway Heads,on top of which, the HOR4s committee may refuse future entries for the clubs concerned.
Please read through all these instructions thoroughly and pass them on to the relevant club official/ trailer driver and any competitors.
TRAILERS:
Trailers are to be parked down-river of the caravan (i.e. the Putney side) on the open bit of ground OR on the concrete opposite the entrance to the Golf club (200m and 300m from the club respectively). There are 12 clubs with at least 10 trailers so please park considerately and as to maximise the number of trailers we can get closer to the club.
NO TRAILER IS TO BE PARKED UNDER THE TREES:
Trailers left here will be moved without warning or consideration for boats being tied on.
CARS AND MINIBUSES:
We ask that cars are parked alongside the A316 at the entrance to Dan Mason Drive (ie away from the river), again there are a lot of you, so the more people per car the better.
Minibuses may be parked alongside Dan Mason Drive alongside the area under the trees. Note the area for parking is marked by red and white low bollards, and the majority of the parking is side on rather than end on.
Once these two areas are full vehicles may be parked in the open area where the trailers are, please park as far away from the club as possible, to make removing trailers after racing easier.
RIGGING:
Boats are to be rigged in the area under the trees between the caravan and the TSS club house.
The Thames Path is not to be obstructed by boats, trestles, blades or other rowing related paraphernalia.
PRACTICE OUTINGS:
Boating for the race is likely to begin 1 hour before the start. We will be boating at the rate of about 1 crew a minute for most of this period.
If you wish to do an early morning paddle then ensure you are off the water by 8:00am at the latest.
Once we have started boating, crews will not be allowed to land unless it is to repair an obvious mechanical problem without removing the boat from the water.
BOATING:
A boating timetable will be available on the day. In order to cope with the limits of the TSS ramp (and not have people in lower divisions on the water for close to four hours) this year we will give the option for crews in divisions 5 and 7 to warm up on land and then boat into number order as your division goes past. n.b. this alternative has the support of the HOR4s race committee.
BOATING FOR RACING AT TSS:
There are a lot of crews and not much time please follow the protocol, the TSS boating marshals are there to help you and will shout at you if you flout the rules.
- Carry blades down and put them in sets either between the bridge and the ramp or on the ramp closest to the bridge.
Do not put them on the steps.
- Walk your boat down and wait in boating order at the top of the steps, a set of trestles is advised so as to not get tired while waiting especially for crews in divisions 5 and 7.
- Wait at the top of the steps while the crew in front of you puts their boat in and gets their blades.
- As soon as they are putting blades in - walk down to the waters edge and boat, as soon as they have shoved off.
- Get blades and bodies into the boat as fast as possible and then psuh-off and take a few strokes to clear the stage. Once you are clear of the landing stage then feet, shoes kit etc can be adjusted. Note that the tideway is not still water and the stream may carry you back onto the steps/other boating crews if you are not careful.
